CASyM AND THE ROAD TO SYSTEMS MEDICINE
Systems Medicine aims at becoming the patient-centred medicine of the next decade through integrating mathematics, biology and clinical medicine. A comprehensive appraisal and analysis of individual patient data over time will lay the grounds of a predictive, personalised, participatory and preventive (4P) medicine. Systems Medicine introduces a paradigm change where physicians substitute the current reactive medical practice by a prospective 4P medicine to shape. In order to initiate this paradigm shift, the European Commission has launched the Coordinating Action Systems Medicine (CASyM), a large-scale coordinating network of scientists and physicians as well as SMEs/pharmaceutical companies and funding bodies. CASyM is tasked with formulating a European wide implementation strategy (road map) for Systems Medicine. The road map is driven by clinical needs: It aims to identify areas where a systems approach will address clinical questions and solve clinical problems.
CloudHealth Genomics Ltd.
CloudHealth Genomics Ltd. (CloudHealth) located in Shanghai is a leading company in China focusing on whole genome tests and health solutions for clinical research and healthy individuals. CloudHealth established a full range of genome technology platforms, including next generation sequecing, microarray, qPCR, etc. CloudHealth also owns the Clinic Genetic Test Lab, the High-End Clinic Center and the Life Center with a medical doctor’s alliance. CloudHealth is devoted to provide total solutions from genetic tests, genetic counseling, health management, preventive treatment and precision medicine services in one stop shop.
Biomax Informatics AG is a Munich based SME that, since 1997, provides services and computational solutions for better decision making and knowledge management in the life sciences. Our special focus are semantic knowledge representation, data integration and knowledge aggregation. Within Systems Medicine projects we establish solutions which integrate electronic health records, clinical and environmental data, experimental results and general knowledge on the affected morbidities. Our solutions help to provide individually tailored care suggestions and improve the quality of life for diseased patients.
Information Technology for Translational Medicine S.A. (ITTM) is a spin-off company of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) and provides data integration and knowledge management solutions and services to all bio-medical research areas. It focuses especially on translational medicine studies and clinical trials, in which heterogeneous data need to be curated, linked and integrated. ITTM provides cutting-edge clinical and multi-omics data analysis, visualization and text-mining solutions.
GeneXplain GmbH, founded in 2010, has developed a comprehensive platform for statistical, bioinformatic and systems biological tools. The geneXplain platform aims at integrating various software tools and databases to assist translational research in the life sciences, mainly in the context of systems biology modelling, drug development, personalized medicine and pharmacogenomics. GeneXplain develops in the platform the high quality curated databases, such as TRANSFAC – the gold standard knowledge-base on gene regulation, Human Proteome Survey Database (HumanPSD) - extended annotation of gene-disease associations, TRANSPATH – the biggest collection of signaling pathways. The platform and its concept have proven their value in several studies of such disorders as diabetes, obesity, neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune diseases and cancer. The business activity of geneXplain focuses on offering access to the geneXplain platform as software as a service (SaaS) to academic research organisations, core facilities, biotech and pharmaceutical companies. GeneXplain also offers data analysis and interpretation services as well as complex research project consulting.
